colposcopy The colposcopy is a test that is performed when an abnormal Pap smear result is obtained. In this test, a doctor uses a magnifying scope to view the surface of the cervix and check for abnormal cervical cells. If abnormal cells aren't obvious, the doctor may stain the cervical cells with an iodine dye. This dye causes abnormal cells to appear white or yellow and normal cells to appear brown. The dying of the cervical cells with iodine is called a Schiller Test.
