| coccidiostat |
Any of a group of chemical agents mixed in feed or drinking water to control coccidiosis in animals. The coccidiostat inhibits the growth but does not kill the coccidia which are protozoan organisms such as Cryptosporidium which invade the intestine with severe destructive results. This control gives the immune system time to overcome the parasite.
