clove Clove oil is a spicy, warming stimulant. Obtained from the dried flower bud of a species of evergreen tree native to the Moluccan Islands, this oil has long been heralded for its analgesic, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory effects, actions attributable to a substance called eugenol which clove contains in abundance. For over 2,000 years, clove has been used to soothe infections and relieve pain.
