Basic test for measuring the ability to learn, used as a guide in the classification of military personnel, this test also includes trade tests, such as clerical, mechanical skills, etc., see also AGCT . The Test grew out of the Alpha Tests (for those recruits who could read + write English) and Beta Tests (for illiterates or non-English speaking recruits) of WWI, and were administered principally for the purpose of identifying occupational specialties in which soldiers had abilities
