Debuted in 'Splendor in the Grass' (1961), becoming a Hollywood playboy. His desire to be taken seriously, however, won him critical acclaim first as an actor, then as a producer, screenwriter, and director with such films as 'Bonnie and Clyde' (1967), 'Shampoo' (1975), and 'Heaven Can Wait' (1978). ...
