glutathione synthase <enzyme> One of the enzymes active in the gamma-glutamyl cycle. It catalyses the synthesis of glutathione from gamma-glutamylcysteine and glycine in the presence of ATP with the formation of ADP and orthophosphate.
Chemical name: gamma-L-Glutamyl-L-cysteine:glycine ligase (ADP-forming)
Registry number: EC 6.3.2.3
(12 Dec 1998)
glycine synthase A complex of several proteins that catalyze the reversible reaction of glycine with tetrahydrofolate to produce CO2, NH3, and N5,N10-methylenetetrahydrofolate; a deficiency of this enzyme (or one of its subunits) will result in nonketotic hyperglycinaemia.
Synonym: glycine synthase.

glycogen synthase <enzyme> An enzyme of the transferase class that catalyses the reaction of udpglucose and (1,4-alpha-d-glucosyl)n to yield udp and 1,4-alpha-d-glucosyl)n+1. The reaction is highly regulated by allosteric effectors, by phosphorylation reactions, and by insulin.
Chemical name: UDPglucose:glycogen 4-alpha-D-glucosyltransferase
Registry number: EC 2.4.1.11
(12 Dec 1998)
glycogen synthase-d phosphatase <enzyme> An enzyme that catalyses the conversion of phosphorylated, inactive glycogen synthase d to active dephosphoglycogen synthase I.
Chemical name: (UDPglucose:glycogen 4-alpha-D-glucosyltransferase-D) phosphohydrolase
Registry number: EC 3.1.3.42
(12 Dec 1998)

membrane-bound proton-translocating PPi synthase <enzyme> From rhodospirillum rubrum; functions as an alternative coupling factor; n,n'-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide-sensitive; catalyses the phosphorylation of pi to ppi, the hydrolysis of ppi and the concomitant translocation of proton across the plasma membrane
Registry number: EC 3.6.1.-
Synonym: h(+)-ppi synthase
(26 Jun 1999)
riboflavin synthase <enzyme> An enzyme that catalyses the formation of riboflavin from two molecules of 6,7-dimethyl-8-ribityllumazine, utilizing a four-carbon fragment from one molecule which is transferred to the second molecule.

Registry number: EC 2.5.1.9
(12 Dec 1998)
ribose-1,5-diphosphate synthase <enzyme> Uses ribose 1-(or 5)p as phosphoryl acceptor and acyl-p of 3-phosphoglyceroylphosphate as phosphoryl donor; similar reaction to glucose 1,6-bisphosphate synthase
Registry number: EC 2.7.1.-
Synonym: ribose-1,5-p2 synthase
(26 Jun 1999)
