| P400 protein | <protein> Inositol 1,4, 5 triphosphate receptor (InsP3 R). Key protein to understanding mechanisms of InsP3 mediated Ca mobilisation. Originally found as a cerebellar glycoprotein of 250 kD and subsequently shown to be identical to the InsP3 receptor protein. (18 Nov 1997) |

| p54 protein kinase | <enzyme> A stress-activated kinase related to erk-1 and erk-2 but activated preferentially by heat shock, protein-synthesis inhibitors and thf-alpha; phosphorylates c-jun proteins; genbank l27111 Registry number: EC 2.7.10.- Synonym: p54 map kinase (26 Jun 1999) |
| gag protein | <molecular biology> The protein of the nucleocapsid shell around the RNA of a retrovirus. (18 Nov 1997) |
| galactose binding protein | <protein> A bacterial periplasmic protein, most studied in E. Coli, that acts both as a sensory element in the detection of galactose as a chemotactic signal and in the uptake of the sugar. (18 Nov 1997) |
| macrophage inflammatory protein | <cytokine> A chemokine that is chemotactic for neutrophils and monocytes, stimulates macrophages, and may play a role in regulating haematopoiesis. Its two variants, mip-1alpha and mip-1beta, are 60% homologous to each other. They are heparin-binding proteins that exhibit a number of inflammatory and immunoregulatory activities. Originally identified as secretory products of macrophages, these chemokines are produced by a variety of cell types including neutrophils, fibroblasts, and epithelial cells. They most likely also play a significant role in respiratory tract defenses. (20 Sep 2002) |
| Varciella-Zoster ORF47-associated protein kinase | <enzyme> Catalyses the in vitro phosphorylation of the vzv orf62 protein Registry number: EC 2.7.1.- Synonym: vzv orf47-apk (26 Jun 1999) |
| MAG protein | <protein> Myelin associated glycoprotein, one of the immunoglobulin superfamily. (18 Nov 1997) |
| palmitoyl-protein thioesterase | <enzyme> Cleaves palmitoyl-cysteine bond of proteins; genbank u44772; do not confuse with palmitoyl-acyl carrier protein thioesterase Registry number: EC 3.1.2.- Synonym: palmitoyl-ras thioesterase, protein palmitoyl thioesterase (26 Jun 1999) |
| major intrinsic protein | <protein> Family of structurally related proteins with 6 transmembrane segments, associated with gap junctions or vacuoles. MIP is found in lens fibre gap junctions. Other members: nodulin 26 (soybean), tonoplast intrinsic protein (TIP) found in plant storage vacuoles, Drosophila neurogenic protein big brain. (18 Nov 1997) |
| gap-43 protein | A nervous tissue specific protein which is highly expressed in neurons during development and nerve regeneration. It has been implicated in neurite outgrowth, long-term potentiation, signal transduction, and neurotransmitter release. It is also a substrate of protein kinase c. (12 Dec 1998) |
| GAP protein | <molecular biology> Originally purified as a 125 kD protein from bovine brain (1044 amino acids), stimulates the GTPase activity of ras p21 and thereby switches it to the inactive state. GAP may itself be regulated by phospholipids and by phosphorylation on a tyrosine residue by growth factor receptors (PDGF R, EGF R). The neurofibromatosis type 1 gene NF1) codes for a protein homologous to GAP. GAP has both SH2 and SH3 domains. Another example is sar 1 (from yeast). (18 Nov 1997) |
| MAK-L protein kinase | <enzyme> Putative protein serine threonine kinase from microtubules, nuclei and centromeres of cho-k1 cells; 72% identical to human kiaa0204 protein; genbank af002245 Registry number: EC 2.7.10.- Synonym: microtubule-associated kinase, large, 3d2 protein, cho-k1 (26 Jun 1999) |
| Mak protein kinase | <enzyme> A testis-specific kinase expressed in the meiotic phase of spermatogenesis in rat; one of the physiological substrates is a 210 kD phosphoprotein; distantly related to cdc2 kinase; has been sequenced Registry number: EC 2.7.10.- Synonym: mak gene product, male germ cell-associated kinase (26 Jun 1999) |
