the most common radioactive isotope of gold, atomic mass 198, used in solid form (seed) or colloidal solution. It has a half-life of 2.69 days and emits gamma (0.412 MeV) and beta particles (1.371, 0.962 MeV); it has been used by intracavitary or interstitial injection or implantation in the treatment of certain types of cancer and has also been used, in colloidal form, as a scintiscanning agent.
