1. any disease in humans or other animals caused by fungi of the order Entomophthorales; human infections usually occur in apparently physiologically and immunologically normal individuals, although opportunistic infections also occur. 2. infection of the skin, oral mucosa, or nasal mucosa of horses by fungi of the order Entomophthorales, causing nodules or ulcerative granulomatous lesions. It is sometimes confused with cutaneous habronemiasis or pythiosis. See also swamp cancer.
