| enoxaparin sodium |
a low molecular weight heparin, prepared from porcine intestinal mucosa, that binds to and potentiates the action of antithrombin III, used to prevent pulmonary embolism and deep venous thrombosis following hip or knee replacement or high-risk abdominal surgery; administered subcutaneously. It is also used in conjunction with warfarin in the treatment of deep venous thrombosis, and in conjunction with aspirin in the prevention of coronary thrombosis associated with unstable angina or nonQ wave myocardial infarction.
