E. coli A species of bacterium found in the healthy intestinal tracts of humans and other animals. It crowds out disease-causing bacteria and produces Vitamin K. However, a mutant strain of E. coli, found in undercooked beef, is very dangerous, can cause severe disease that can become fatal in small children and the elderly.
