BLAST® (Basic Local Alignment Search Tool) is a set of programs designed to search for similar sequences in all of available sequences. The BLAST programs may be used for either protein or DNA sequences and the scores assigned have a well-defined statistical interpretation, making real matches easier to distinguish from random background hits.
