A "tick" is the minimum price increment a stock, future, or option can trade in. For example, in a stock that trades in minimum increments of 1/16th of a point, a move of 1/16 up or down would be a one-tick move. In the S&P 500 futures, a tick is .10, in crude oil futures, a tick is .01, and so on.

a progressive ascending type of flaccid paralysis seen in children and domestic animals following the bite of certain ticks. In the northwestern United States and western Canada it is usually caused by Dermacentor andersoni, and in other parts of the world numerous other ticks have been implicated, including species of Ixodes, Haemaphysalis, and Rhipicephalus. It is usually the result of toxins from the tick's saliva that enter the central nervous system of the host.

a form of epidemic encephalitis usually spread by the bites of ticks (Ixodes persulcatus) infected with flaviviruses; occasionally it may be spread via raw milk from goats, sheep, or cows infected with the virus. It ranges in severity from mild to fatal and there may be degenerative changes in organs other than those of the nervous system. The more common, severe form is Russian spring-summer e.; a milder form is called Central European e. Called also Russian endemic, Russian forest-spring, Russian tick-borne, or Russian vernal e.
