| stria spinosa | A faint groove occasionally caused by the chorda tympani nerve on the spine of the sphenoid. Synonym: Lucas' groove, sulcus spinosus. (05 Mar 2000) |
| stria tecta | A thin longitudinal band of nerve fibres accompanied by gray matter, near each outer edge of the upper surface of the corpus callosum under cover of the cingulate gyru. Synonym: stria longitudinalis lateralis, stria tecta, tectal stria. (05 Mar 2000) |
| stria terminalis | A slender, compact fibre bundle that connects the amygdala (amygdaloid body) with the hypothalamus and other basal forebrain regions. Originating from the amygdala, the bundle passes first caudalward in the roof of the temporal horn of the lateral ventricle; it follows the medial side of the caudate nucleus forward in the floor of the ventricle's central part (or body) until it reaches the interventricular foramen, in the posterior wall of which it curves steeply down to enter the hypothalamus, with fibres passing both rostral and caudal to the anterior commissure. Coursing caudalward in the medial part of the hypothalamus, the bundle terminates in the anterior and ventromedial hypothalamic nuclei. Synonym: stria terminalis, Foville's fasciculus, Tarin's tenia, tenia saemicircularis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| stria vascularis | A layer of highly vascular pigmented granular cells on the outer wall of the cochlear duct. (12 Dec 1998) |
| stria vascularis ductus cochlearis | The stratified epithelium lining the upper part of the ligamentum spirale cochleae; it is penetrated by capillaries and is believed to be the site of production of endolymph. Synonym: stria vascularis ductus cochlearis, psalterial cord, vascular stripe. (05 Mar 2000) |
| stria vascularis of cochlea | The stratified epithelium lining the upper part of the ligamentum spirale cochleae; it is penetrated by capillaries and is believed to be the site of production of endolymph. Synonym: stria vascularis ductus cochlearis, psalterial cord, vascular stripe. (05 Mar 2000) |
| Nitabuch's stria | A layer of fibrin between the boundary zone of compact endometrium and the cytotrophoblastic shell in the placenta. Synonym: Nitabuch's layer, Nitabuch's stria. (05 Mar 2000) |
| diagonalis stria | See: Broca's diagonal band. (05 Mar 2000) |
| tectal stria | A thin longitudinal band of nerve fibres accompanied by gray matter, near each outer edge of the upper surface of the corpus callosum under cover of the cingulate gyru. Synonym: stria longitudinalis lateralis, stria tecta, tectal stria. (05 Mar 2000) |
| terminal stria | A slender, compact fibre bundle that connects the amygdala (amygdaloid body) with the hypothalamus and other basal forebrain regions.
| Langhans' stria | Fibrinoid that accumulates on the chorionic plate between the bases of placental villi during the first half of pregnancy. (05 Mar 2000) |
| lateral longitudinal stria | A thin longitudinal band of nerve fibres accompanied by gray matter, near each outer edge of the upper surface of the corpus callosum under cover of the cingulate gyru. Synonym: stria longitudinalis lateralis, stria tecta, tectal stria. (05 Mar 2000) |
| appendix ventriculi laryngis | A small diverticulum provided with mucous glands extending upward from the ventricle of the larynx between the vestibular fold and the lamina of the thyroid cartilage; it is a vestigial structure, being a much larger structure interdigitating with the neck musculature in some of the great apes where it serves as a resonating chamber. Synonym: sacculus laryngis, appendix ventriculi laryngis, Hilton's sac, laryngeal pouch. Origin: L. Sacculus (05 Mar 2000) |
