    척수의 추체로가 양쪽에서 장애를 받아 양쪽 다리 또는 양쪽 팔다리에 운동 마비가 일어나는 병. 다리의 근육이 당기고 건반사가 항진된다. 한 가지 질환이 아니라 다발성 경화증, 연합성 삭변성증, 척수 종양, 변형성 경추증, 근 위축성 측삭 경화증 등의 경과 중에 나타나는 한 증세라고 보는 견해가 많다. 경성 척수 마비 가운데 가장 많은 것은 가족성 경성 대마비와 매독에 의한 척수성 대마비이다. 전자는 척수 소뇌 변성증의 하나로 비교적 많다. 동일 가족 내에서 일어나며, 주로 10세 이하의 어린이에 발병한다. 양쪽 다리가 땅기어 보행이 늦고 넘어지기 쉬우며, 건반사가 항진한다. 그러나 지각이나 방광의 장애는 없고, 상체에도 증상이 나타나지 않으며 그 이상의 진전은 없다. 치료는 특별한 방법은 없고 운동 요법이 효과적이다. 후자의 경우는 처음에 간헐성 파행으로 자주 쉬지 않으면 걸을 수 없는 상태가 된다. 혈액이나 수액에도 변화가 일어나는 것으로 진단된다. 치료는 페니실린이 효과적이다.
