| rotate |
A function found within image editing software that allows all or part of a pixel image to be rotated by any number of degrees. Rotation in 90?increments is fast and carries no quality penalty but this is not the case for other angles. This is why it is important to carefully orient artwork on a scanner so that rotation will not be necessary.

| rotate |
To spin about an axis or a center. An "axis" is a real or imaginary straight line passing through the middle of something that is spinning. For example the Earth is spinning or "rotating" on its axis, which runs through the center of the Earth from the North pole to the South pole. It takes 24 hours (one day) for the Earth to rotate one complete turn. All of the planets in the solar system are rotating as they revolve in their orbit around the sun. Our sun is also rotating on an axis of its own.
