a disease of young pigs in which the walls of the intestines lose villi, immature epithelial cells proliferate, and the lamina propria becomes inflamed, resulting in diarrhea and anorexia. The cause is thought to be infection by Campylobacter sputorum or C. hyointestinalis. It is usually self-limiting, but it may develop into necrotic enteritis or proliferative hemorrhagic enteropathy that can be fatal.
