millibar A millibar is a unit of pressure equal to a thousandth of a bar. MILLIKAN Robert Andrews Millikan (Mar. 22, 1868-Dec. 19, 1953) was an American physicist who measured the charge of the electron (in his oil-drop experiment, 1911). Millikan named "cosmic rays" in 1928, while studing the radiation from space. He won the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1923 for his work on the electron's charge and his work on the photoelectric effect. Millikan wrote many books.
