lobular carcinoma A type of breast cancer that starts within the lobules. It may be multicentric (occurring in multiple lobules). Compared with other types of breast cancer, this type has a higher chance of occurring in the opposite breast, as well. It can often be difficult to diagnose, even with careful physical examination or mammography.
