| Epithelial membrane antigen | <cell biology> Heavily glycosylated membrane glycoprotein. Encoded by the MUC 1 gene, has a molecular weight of around 300 kD, more than half of which is O linked glycan. There is a 69 residue cytoplasmic domain and the extracellular domain may extend hundreds of nanometres beyond the plasma membrane, the increased expression in carcinoma cells may reduce the adhesion and mask antigenic properties of the cells. Similar functions are ascribed to ASGP, epiglycanin and leucosialin. (18 Nov 1997) |

| epithelial migration | Apical shift of epithelial attachment, exposing more of the tooth crown. (05 Mar 2000) |
| epithelial myoepithelial carcinoma | <tumour> A salivary gland malignancy composed of an inner layer of ductal cells surrounded by a layer of clear myoepithelial cells. (05 Mar 2000) |
| epithelial nest | A focus of central keratinization within concentric layers of abnormal squamous cells; seen in squamous cell carcinoma. Synonym: epithelial nest, epithelial pearl, squamous pearl. (05 Mar 2000) |
| epithelial pearl | A focus of central keratinization within concentric layers of abnormal squamous cells; seen in squamous cell carcinoma. Synonym: epithelial nest, epithelial pearl, squamous pearl. (05 Mar 2000) |
| epithelial reticular cell | One of the many-branched epithelial cell's that collectively form the supporting stroma for lymphocytes in the thymus; believed to produce thymosin and other factors that control thymic function. (05 Mar 2000) |

| juvenile epithelial corneal dystrophy | Epithelial dystrophy characterised by progressive cysts and opacities of the corneal epithelium, with onset in infancy. Inheritance: autosomal dominant with incomplete penetrance. Synonym: Meesman dystrophy. (22 Sep 2002) |
| focal epithelial hyperplasia | Hyperplasia of the mucous membrane of the lips, tongue, and less commonly, the buccal mucosa, floor of the mouth, and palate, presenting soft, painless, round to oval sessile papules about 1 to 4 mm in diameter. The condition usually occurs in children and young adults and has familial predilection, lasting for several months, sometimes years, before running its course. A viral aetiology is suspected, the isolated organism being usually the human papilloma virus. (12 Dec 1998) |
| follicular epithelial cell | <physiology> A cell lining a follicle such as that of the thyroid gland. (05 Mar 2000) |
| Fuchs' epithelial dystrophy | Epithelial oedema secondary to endothelial dystrophy of the cornea. (05 Mar 2000) |
