a form of ichthyosis present at birth, inherited as an autosomal dominant trait, and characterized by generalized erythroderma and severe hyperkeratosis with small, hard verrucous scales over the entire body, accentuated in flexural areas, which may involve the palms and soles. Recurrent bullae usually localized to the lower limbs are characteristic in infancy and childhood. Formerly called bullous congenital ichthyosiform erythroderma. See also ichthyosis hystrix.
