dermatan sulphate Glycosaminoglycan (15-40 kD) typical of extracellular matrix of skin, blood vessels and heart. Repeating units of D glucuronic acid N acetyl D galactosamine or L iduronic acid N acetyl D galactosamine with 1-2 sulphates per unit. Broken down by L iduronidase, but accumulates intra lysosomally in Hurler syndrome and Hunter syndrome.
