| small pancreas | A portion of the head of the pancreas that hooks around posterior to the superior mesenteric vessels, sometimes into the "nutcracker" formed by the superior mesenteric artery and abdominal aorta. Synonym: processus uncinatus pancreatis, lesser pancreas, pancreas minus, small pancreas, uncinate pancreas, unciform pancreas, Willis' pancreas, Winslow's pancreas. (05 Mar 2000) |

| superior border of pancreas | The uppermost border of the body of the pancreas that separates the anterior and posterior surfaces. Synonym: margo superior pancreatis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| inferior border of pancreas | The border of the pancreas separating the inferior and posterior surfaces. Synonym: margo inferior pancreatis, margo inferior splenis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| inferior surface of pancreas | The surface of the body of the pancreas that faces downward. Synonym: facies inferior pancreatis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| tail of pancreas | The left extremity of the pancreas within the lienorenal ligament. Synonym: cauda pancreatis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| echogenic pancreas | <radiology> Fatty degeneration, cystic fibrosis, calcification (chronic pancreatitis) (12 Dec 1998) |
| ectopic pancreas | <radiology> Site: stomach (most common), small bowel, Meckel diverticulum, gallbladder, spleen prevalence: 10% at autopsy, 1:500 at operation (12 Dec 1998) |
| exocrine part of pancreas | exocrine part of pancreas |
| uncinate pancreas | A portion of the head of the pancreas that hooks around posterior to the superior mesenteric vessels, sometimes into the "nutcracker" formed by the superior mesenteric artery and abdominal aorta. Synonym: processus uncinatus pancreatis, lesser pancreas, pancreas minus, small pancreas, uncinate pancreas, unciform pancreas, Willis' pancreas, Winslow's pancreas. (05 Mar 2000) |
| uncinate process of pancreas | A portion of the head of the pancreas that hooks around posterior to the superior mesenteric vessels, sometimes into the "nutcracker" formed by the superior mesenteric artery and abdominal aorta. Synonym: processus uncinatus pancreatis, lesser pancreas, pancreas minus, small pancreas, uncinate pancreas, unciform pancreas, Willis' pancreas, Winslow's pancreas. (05 Mar 2000) |
| fibrocystic disease of the pancreas | <chest medicine> A generalised disorder of infants, children and young adults, in which there is widespread dysfunction of the exocrine glands, characterised by signs of chronic pulmonary disease (due to excess mucus production in the respiratory tract), pancreatic deficiency, abnormally high levels of electrolytes in the sweat and occasionally by biliary cirrhosis. There is an ineffective immunologic defense against bacteria in the lungs. Pathologically, the pancreas shows obstruction of the pancreatic ducts by amorphous eosinophilic concretions, with consequent deficiency of pancreatic enzymes, resulting in steatorrhoea and azotorrhoea and intestinal malabsorption. The degree of involvement of organs and glandular systems may vary greatly, with consequent variations in the clinical picture. Inheritance: autosomal recessive. (13 Nov 1997) |
| lesser pancreas | A portion of the head of the pancreas that hooks around posterior to the superior mesenteric vessels, sometimes into the "nutcracker" formed by the superior mesenteric artery and abdominal aorta. Synonym: processus uncinatus pancreatis, lesser pancreas, pancreas minus, small pancreas, uncinate pancreas, unciform pancreas, Willis' pancreas, Winslow's pancreas. (05 Mar 2000) |
| Galton's delta | A more or less well-marked triangle, in a fingerprint, on either side where the straight ridges near the joint of the distal phalanx are succeeded by arches, loops, or whorls. See: Galton's system of classification of fingerprints. Synonym: triradius. (05 Mar 2000) |
| receptors, opioid, delta | A class of opioid receptors recognised by its pharmacological profile. Delta opioid receptors bind endorphins and enkephalins with approximately equal affinity and have less affinity for dynorphins. (12 Dec 1998) |
| CDP-6-deoxy-delta(3,4)-glucoseen reductase | <enzyme> Key enzyme catalyzing the biosynthetic formation of cdp-ascarylose via a pyridoxamine-linked intermediate; the enzyme can also oxidise NADPH in the presence of oxygen; from yerisinia pseudotuberculosis Registry number: EC 1.17.1.- Synonym: cddg reductase (26 Jun 1999) |
