In the shape of a moon in it's first quarter, with the horns pointing up. If the horns point to the dexter side of the shield, it is called an increscent, if the horns point to the sinister side of the shield, it is called a decrescent. Presumably this has something to do with the moon in it's waxing and waning phases.
