Neither allele dominates the other. If both are present, both are seen. The most common example is the calico cat. Black and orange are codominant in cats. If both alleles are present, the cat has both pigment colors.

an allele that causes the heterozygous form to appear like an intermediate between the homozygous recessive and the homozygous dominant form. (All three look different from each other.) Example: Short-legged, (heterozygous form) is the intermediate between the Long-legged (homozygous recessive), and Bulldog (homozygous dominant). It may be important to note that recessive, dominant, and co-dominant are clinical terms, ie they are based on the outward appearance of the animal.
