arylsulfatase t. (for differentiating species of rapid-growing mycobacteria): a sample from a Tween-albumin broth culture of the suspected organism is incubated with tripotassium phenolphthalein disulfate for three days and then alkalinized. Those species producing arylsulfatase (Mycobacterium fortuitum and M. chelonae) show a pink to red positive reaction; a colorless reaction is negative.
