Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome A neurological disorder. Wernicke's encephalopathy and Korsakoff's psychosis are the acute and chronic phases, respectively, of the same disease. Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome is caused by a deficiency in the B vitamin thiamine.
