| obesity-related diseases | Obesity increases the risk of developing a number of diseases including: type 2 (adult-onset) diabetes high blood pressure (hypertension) stroke (cerebrovascular accident or cva) heart attack (myocardial infarction or mi) heart failure (congestive heart failure) cancer (only certain forms such as prostate and colon cancer) gallstones and gall bladder disease (cholecystitis) gout and gouty arthritis osteoarthritis (degenerative arthritis) of the knees, hips, and the lower back sleep apnea (failure to breath normally during sleep, lowering blood oxygen) pickwickian syndrome (obesity, red face, underventilation, and drowsiness). (12 Dec 1998) |

| opioid-related disorders | Disorders related or resulting from abuse or mis-use of opioids. (12 Dec 1998) |
| event-related potentials, p300 | A late-appearing component of the event-related potential. P stands for positive voltage potential and 300 represents 300 millisecond poststimulus. Its amplitude increases with unpredictable, unlikely, or highly significant stimuli and thereby constitutes an index of mental activity. (12 Dec 1998) |
| fos-related antigen | <molecular biology> A group of phosphoproteins found in the cell nucleus which are structurally similar to the fos oncogene's gene product. (06 Mar 1998) |
| FYN-related kinase | <enzyme> 49% identical to human fyn and 47% to human src; genbank u00803 Registry number: EC 2.7.1.- Synonym: frk protein, frk gene product (26 Jun 1999) |
| light chain-related amyloidosis | A form of primary amyloidosis in which the fibrillar amyloid deposits are derived from the amino terminal variable region of the light chains of immunoglobulin; seen in B-lymphocyte and plasma-cells dyscrasias. (05 Mar 2000) |
| localization related epilepsy | A clinically diverse group of epilepsy syndromes, some benign, some progressive. Many are hereditary with mendelian and nonmendelian mitochondrial inheritance. All are characterised by the occurrence of myoclonus, which may be limited or predominate in the condition. Specific syndromes include cherry red spot myoclonus syndrome, ceroid lipofuscinosis, myoclonic epilepsy with ragged red fibres, and Baltic myoclonus. Synonym: localization related epilepsy. (05 Mar 2000) |
| lymphoma, aids-related | B-cell lymphoid tumours that occur in association with aids. Patients often present with an advanced stage of disease and highly malignant subtypes including burkitt lymphoma, immunoblastic large-cell lymphoma, small non-cleaved-cell lymphoma and diffuse large-cell lymphoma. The tumours are often disseminated in unusual extranodal sites and chromosomal abnormalities are frequently present. It is likely that polyclonal B-cell lymphoproliferation in aids is a complex result of ebv infection, HIV antigenic stimulation, and T-cell-dependent HIV activation. (12 Dec 1998) |
