affects bone growth; the abnormality occurs in the bone cells. The regular ordered process of bone loss and formation does not take place properly; bone cells increase in number, become larger and also more active. The most common sympton is pain.

A disease characterized by accelerated bone turnover, resulting in the involved bone becoming enlarged but weak and fragile. The bone also feels warmer to touch due to increased blood supply. Also called osteitis deformans.
