any of a group of mycotoxins produced by Aspergillus ochraceus and certain species of Penicillium, sometimes found contaminating grains, peanuts, and green coffee beans. It has been implicated in cases of hepatic carcinoma and Balkan nephritis. The most common and the most toxic is ochratoxin A, which causes ochratoxicosis in pigs, fowl, dogs, and other animals that eat contaminated grain or flour products.
