NADPH methemoglobin reductase an enzyme of the erythrocytes that catalyzes the reduction of methemoglobin to hemoglobin via oxidation of NADH. The physiological significance of the enzyme is uncertain; no endogenous intermediate electron carrier has been found, although the enzyme can be activated if methylene blue or other artificial electron acceptor is introduced. Called also methemoglobin reductase (NADPH).

NADPH oxidase a plasma membrane–associated enzyme complex that catalyzes the univalent reduction of oxygen using NADPH as an electron donor; the superoxide anion formed acts as an oxidant in the phagocyte microbicidal system, proceeding through a series of electron transfer reactions that form the respirator burst. Various genetic defects in the system result in chronic granulomatous disease.
