  • DNA Fragmentation - »õâ Splitting the DNA into shorter pieces by endonucleolytic DNA CLEAVAGE at multiple sites. It includes the internucleosomal DNA fragmentation, which along with chromatin condensation, are considered to be the hallmarks of APOPTOSIS.
Synonyms : Apoptotic DNA Degradation, Fragmentation, DNA
  • DNA Glycosylases - »õâ A family of DNA repair enzymes that recognize damaged nucleotide bases and remove them by hydrolyzing the N-glycosidic bond that attaches them to the sugar backbone of the DNA molecule. The process called BASE EXCISION REPAIR can be completed by a DNA-(APURINIC OR APYRIMIDINIC SITE) LYASE which excises the remaining RIBOSE sugar from the DNA.
Synonyms : DNA Glycosylase, Methylpurine DNA Glycosylase, DNA Glycosylase, Methylpurine, DNA N glycosidase, Glycosylase, DNA, Glycosylase, Methylpurine DNA, Glycosylases, DNA
  • DNA Gyrase - »õâ A bacterial DNA topoisomerase II that catalyzes ATP-dependent breakage of both strands of DNA, passage of the unbroken strands through the breaks, and rejoining of the broken strands. Gyrase binds to DNA as a heterotetramer consisting two A and two B subunits. In the presence of ATP, gyrase is able to convert relaxed circular DNA duplex into a superhelix. In the absence of ATP, supercoiled DNA is relaxed by DNA gyrase.
Synonyms : DNA-Gyrase, gyrA Gene product, gyrB Gene Product
  • DNA Helicases - »õâ Proteins that catalyze the unwinding of duplex DNA during replication by binding cooperatively to single-stranded regions of DNA or to short regions of duplex DNA that are undergoing transient opening. In addition DNA helicases are DNA-dependent ATPases that harness the free energy of ATP hydrolysis to translocate of DNA strands.
Synonyms : ATP-Dependent DNA Helicases, DNA Helicase A, DNA Helicase E, DNA Helicase II, DNA Helicase III, ATP Dependent DNA Helicases, DNA Helicases, ATP-Dependent, Helicases, ATP-Dependent DNA, Helicases, DNA, Unwinding Proteins, DNA
  • DNA Ligases - »õâ Poly(deoxyribonucleotide):poly(deoxyribonucleotide)ligases. Enzymes that catalyze the joining of preformed deoxyribonucleotides in phosphodiester linkage during genetic processes during repair of a single-stranded break in duplex DNA. The class includes both EC 6.5.1.1 (ATP) and EC 6.5.1.2 (NAD).
Synonyms : T4 DNA Ligase, DNA Ligase, T4, Joinases, DNA, Ligase, T4 DNA, Ligases, DNA, Ligases, Polydeoxyribonucleotide, Synthetases, Polydeoxyribonucleotide
