demilune 1. A work constructed beyond the main ditch of a fortress, and in front of the curtain between two bastions, intended to defend the curtain; a ravelin. See Ravelin.
2. <physiology> A crescentic mass of granular protoplasm present in the salivary glands.
Each crescent is made of polyhedral cells which under some circumstances are supposed to give rise to new salivary cells.

demilune body A circular body of extreme transparency except for a crescentic punctate substance on one edge which contains haemoglobin. The body is much larger than a red blood cell, but is thought possibly to be a degenerated red blood cell swollen by imbibition; it has been found in malaria and in convalescence from typhoid fever; the transparent portion is called the glass body.

It changed its name back to democratic republic of the congo in 1997. The name zaire is an alternate name for the congo river from nzai, a kikongo dialect form of nazdi, river.
