| CD4 count |
This refers to the T-lymphocyte cell in the body which is directly affected by the HIV virus. The number of CD4 cells is a reflection of the state of the immune system. A normal CD4 count is approximately 800 to 1000. In general, HIV medications are started at a CD4 count of 500 or below. The formal definition for AIDs is a CD4 count below 200.
