5-ASA A commonly prescribed anti-inflammatory medication considered of great value in the treatment and control of inflammatory bowel diseases, particularly ulcerative colitis. It is a member of the aminosalicylate group of medications, and is also known as mesalazine.

5′-nucleotidase [EC 3.1.3.5] a membrane-bound, cytoplasmic nucleotidase specifically cleaving phosphate from the 5′ position of nucleotides to yield nucleosides. The enzyme acts on a wide range of 5′-nucleotides and the reaction is part of the main nucleotide degradation pathway.
