Leptomonas a genus of parasitic protozoa (suborder Trypanosomatina, order Kinetoplastida) found in the digestive tract of various insects, and characterized by having an elongate body with a relatively large nucleus near the center and a long thin flagellum arising from a blepharoplast and a kinetoplast near the anterior end. During their life cycle the organisms pass through promastigote and amastigote stages.
