| Marfan's disease | <syndrome> A hereditary condition of the connective tissue. Symptoms and signs include tall lean body type, irregular or unsteady gait, long extremities (including fingers and toes), abnormal joint flexibility, flat feet, stooped shoulders, dislocation of the optic lens and aneurysms of the aorta. Affects 1 in 50,000 people. Probably a collagen fibril assembly disorder since it can be mimicked in mice by aminonitriles that interfere with crosslinking. Inheritance: autosomal dominant. | Marie-Strumpell disease | <rheumatology> A polyarthritis involving the spine, which is characterised by progressive, painful stiffening of the joints and ligaments. It almost exclusively affects young men. | vertebral-basilar artery disease | <cardiology> Aortic arch syndrome, also referred to by many as vertebral-basilar artery disease, carotid artery occlusive syndrome and subclavian steal syndrome is characterised by a constellation of signs and symptoms which occur secondary to abnormalities in the major arteries which extend off of the aortic arch. These abnormalities are structural and most often secondary to the effects of atherosclerosis, blood clots, trauma or a congenital abnormality.
