| 설명 | 눈물은 대개 눈물샘에서 만들어져 눈을 적신 뒤에 누관을 거쳐서 눈물주머니에 모인 뒤에 이 코눈물관으로 흘러 코 안쪽으로 내려가게 된다. 만일 여기가 막히면, 눈물이 계속 고이게 되어 계속 눈물을 흘리게 되며, 또한 병균의 서식처가 되어 감염의 위험성이 높아진다. |

| 설명 | 원형질 표면을 덮는 엷은막. 두께는 5~25μm이다. 광학현미경으로는 관찰할 수 없지만 전자현미경으로 관찰이 가능하다. 원형질막의 분자구조는 레시틴이나 콜레스테롤 등의 표면 활성물질 분자가 2분자층으로 그 표면에 배열되며, 이것을 각 1분자층의 단백질 분자가 양쪽에서 샌드위치한 단위막 구조이다. 전자현미경적으로 이 단위는 암-명-암의 3층(각 약 20nm)으로 구별된다. 원형질의 투과성에 중요한 구실을 하며, 생리상태가 변하면 그 투과성도 신속히 변한다. 또, 손상이 되면 쉽게 새로 형성된다. |

| cochlear ganglion | An elongated ganglion of bipolar sensory nerve cell bodies on the cochlear part of the vestibulocochlear nerve in the spiral canal of the modiolus; each ganglion cell gives rise to a peripheral process that passes between the layers of the bony spiral lamina to the organ of Corti, and a central axon that enters the hindbrain as a component of the inferior (cochlear) root of the eighth nerve. | cochlear implant | An electronic device implanted under the skin with electrodes in the middle ear on the promontory or cochlear window or in the inner ear in the cochlea to create sound sensation in total sensory deafness. A microphone behind the ear feeds sound waves into a microprocessor carried on the body, which analyzes the data and sends information back to a radio transmitter that triggers the electrodes in the middle or inner ear to produce the appropriate electrical pulses. This does not enable the patient actually to hear, but rather to distinguish different sounds according to the neural sensation they produce. The first successful cochlear implant was performed in 1978 in Melbourne, Australia. Such devices are among many implanted aids which have been made possible by the advent of microchip technology.
