ventral pancreas That portion of the primordium of the pancreas that develops, together with the hepatic diverticulum, as a ventral bud from the foregut endoderm.
(05 Mar 2000)
ventral part of pons The large ventral part of the pons occupied by the nuclei pontis, traversed longitudinally by corticopontine, corticobulbar, and corticospinal fibres, and transversely by pontocerebellar fibres. Pontocerebellar fibres converging laterally form the middle cerebellar peduncle or brachium pontis.
Synonym: pars ventralis pontis, anterior part of pons, basilar part of pons, pars basilaris pontis.
(05 Mar 2000)
ventral plate Ventral midline thinning of the developing neural tube, a continuity between the basal laminae of either side; opposite of roof plate.
Synonym: ventral plate.
(05 Mar 2000)
ventral plate of neural tube The ventral division of the lateral walls of the neural tube in the embryo; it contains neuroblasts giving rise to somatic and visceral motor neurons.
Synonym: lamina basalis, basal plate of neural tube, lamina ventralis, ventral plate of neural tube.

ventral posterior intermediate nucleus of thalamus Intermediate part of the ventrobasal nuclear complex.
See: ventral posterior nucleus of thalamus.
Synonym: ventral posterior intermediate nucleus of thalamus.
(05 Mar 2000)
ventral posterior nucleus of thalamus The large posterior part of the ventral nucleus of the thalamus receiving the somatic sensory lemnisci (medial lemniscus, spinothalamic tract, trigeminal lemniscus) and the ascending gustatory (taste) lemniscus, and projecting in turn by way of the internal capsule to the cortex of the postcentral gyrus. The nucleus is somatotopically organised and subdivided into a ventral posterolateral nucleus of thalamus representing the leg, a ventral posterior intermediate nucleus of thalamus representing the arm, a ventral posteromedial nucleus of thalamus representing the face, and an arcuate nucleus of thalamus receiving the gustatory lemniscus.
Synonym: nucleus ventralis posterior thalami, ventrobasal nucleus.
(05 Mar 2000)
ventral posterolateral nucleus of thalamus Lateral part of the ventrobasal nuclear complex.
See: ventral posterior nucleus of thalamus.
Synonym: nucleus ventralis posterolateralis thalami.

ventral primary rami of sacral spinal nerves See: ventral primary ramus of spinal nerve.
Synonym: rami ventrales nervorum sacralium.
(05 Mar 2000)
ventral primary ramus of spinal nerve <anatomy, nerve> The larger, anterolaterally-directed major terminal branch (with the dorsal primary ramus) of all 31 pairs of mixed spinal nerves, formed at the intervertebral foramen. Most ventral primary rami, especially those involved in the innervation of the limbs, participate in the formation of the major nerve plexuses (cervical, brachial, and lumbosacral) and lose their identities. Most in the thoracic region, however, remain separate from adjacent rami to become the intercostal and subcostal nerves. Ventral primary rami provide innervation to the anterolateral body wall and trunk. Nomina Anatomica lists ventral primary rami as "rami ventrales" for each group of spinal nerves: 1) cervical (nervorum cervicalium ), 2) thoracic (nervorum thoracicorum ), 3) lumbar (nervorum lumbalium ), 4) sacral (nervorum sacralium )m, and 5) coccygeal (nervi coccygei ).
Synonym: ramus ventralis nervi spinalis, anterior primary division.
(05 Mar 2000)
ventral root The motor root of a spinal nerve.
Synonym: radix anterior, radix motoria, anterior root, motor root, radix ventralis.
(05 Mar 2000)
ventral sacrococcygeal ligament <anatomy> The continuation of the anterior longitudinal ligament uniting the sacrum and coccyx.
Synonym: ligamentum sacrococcygeum anterius, anterior sacrococcygeal ligament.
(05 Mar 2000)
