cell transplantation Transference of cells within an individual, between individuals of the same species, or between individuals of different species.
(12 Dec 1998)
peripheral blood stem cell transplantation A procedure that is similar to bone marrow transplantation. Doctors remove healthy immature cells (stem cells) from a patient's blood and store them before the patient receives high-dose chemotherapy and possibly radiation therapy to destroy the leukaemia cells. The stem cells are then returned to the patient, where they can produce new blood cells to replace cells destroyed by the treatment.
(12 Dec 1998)
corneal transplantation Partial or total replacement of the cornea from one human or animal to another.
(12 Dec 1998)
haematopoietic stem cell transplantation The transference of stem cells from one animal or human to another (allogeneic), or within the same individual (autologous). The source for the stem cells may be the bone marrow or peripheral blood. Stem cell transplantation has been used as an alternative to autologous bone marrow transplantation in the treatment of a variety of neoplasms.
(12 Dec 1998)
heart-lung transplantation The simultaneous, or near simultaneous, transference of heart and lungs from one human or animal to another.
(12 Dec 1998)
heart transplantation The transference of a heart from one human or animal to another.
(12 Dec 1998)
skin transplantation The grafting of skin in humans or animals from one site to another to replace a lost portion of the body surface skin.
(12 Dec 1998)
neoplasm transplantation Experimental transplantation of neoplasms in laboratory animals for research purposes.
(12 Dec 1998)
nuclear transplantation <procedure> Experimental approach in study of nucleo cytoplasmic interactions, in which a nucleus is transferred from one cell to the cytoplasm (which may be anucleate) of a second.
(18 Nov 1997)
islets of langerhans transplantation The transference of pancreatic islets within an individual, between individuals of the same species, or between individuals of different species.
(12 Dec 1998)
organ transplantation Transference of an organ between individuals of the same species or between individuals of different species.
(12 Dec 1998)
tendon transplantation Insertion of a slip from the tendon of a sound muscle into the tendon of a paralysed muscle, replacement of a length of tendon by a free graft.
(05 Mar 2000)
tissue transplantation Transference of tissue within an individual, between individuals of the same species, or between individuals of different species.
(12 Dec 1998)
tooth transplantation The transfer of a tooth from one alveolus to another.
