| vena centralis retinae | Formed by union of the retinal veins and accompanies the artery of the same name in the optic nerve. Synonym: vena centralis retinae. (05 Mar 2000) |

| pars centralis | <anatomy, neurology> Pertaining to the brain, cranial nerves and spinal cord. It does not include muscles or peripheral nerves. In invertebrates, the central nervous system is composed of the segmental ganglia of the ventral nerve cord together with the fused ganglia or brain at the anterior end. Acronym: CNS (12 Jan 1998) |
| pars centralis ventriculi lateralis | The body of the lateral ventricle of the brain, extending from the interventricular foramen (of Monro) to the collateral trigone (i.e., junction of posterior and inferior horns). Synonym: cella media. (05 Mar 2000) |
| centralis | Central; in the centre. Origin: L. (05 Mar 2000) |
| placenta previa centralis | Placenta previa in which the placenta entirely covers the internal os of the cervix. Synonym: central placenta previa, total placenta previa. (05 Mar 2000) |
| substantia gelatinosa centralis | The central gray matter of the spinal cord surrounding the central canal. Synonym: substantia intermedia centralis et lateralis, anterior gray column, Stilling's gelatinous substance, substantia gelatinosa centralis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| substantia grisea centralis | In general: the predominantly small-celled gray matter adjoining or surrounding the central canal of the spinal cord and the third and fourth ventricles of the brainstem, in particular: the thick sleeve of gray matter surrounding the cerebral sylvian aqueduct in the midbrain, rostrally continuous with the posterior nucleus of the hypothalamus; in sections stained for myelin it stands out from the adjoining tectum and tegmentum by the poverty of its myelinated fibres. Synonym: substantia grisea centralis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| substantia intermedia centralis et lateralis | The central gray matter of the spinal cord surrounding the central canal. Synonym: substantia intermedia centralis et lateralis, anterior gray column, Stilling's gelatinous substance, substantia gelatinosa centralis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| nucleus centralis lateralis thalami | The most lateral of the intralaminar nuclei of the thalamus. Synonym: nucleus centralis lateralis thalami. (05 Mar 2000) |
| nucleus centralis tegmenti superior | One of the nuclei raphes. Synonym: Bechterew's nucleus. (05 Mar 2000) |
| nucleus medialis centralis thalami | A small cell group in the interthalamic adhesion of the thalamus, occupying the midline region of the internal medullary lamina, between the left and the right paracentral nucleus. Synonym: nucleus medialis centralis thalami. (05 Mar 2000) |
| tractus centralis tegmenti | A large fibre bundle passing longitudinally through the central mesencephalic and pontine tegmentum, distinguished from adjacent longitudinal groups of fibre-fascicles of the reticular formation by a more compact composition. In transverse sections of the mesencephalon the bundle occupies a large triangular area lateral to the medial longitudinal fasciculus; farther caudally it expands ventralward and finally passes over the lateral side of the (inferior) olivary nucleus, becoming part of the latter's fibre capsule. The bundle contains fibres from the mesencephalic tegmentum and regions surrounding the central gray substance descending to the olivary nucleus; it also includes numerous fibres ascending from the medullary, pontine, and mesencephalic reticular formation to the thalamus and subthalamus region. Synonym: tractus tegmentalis centralis, central tegmental fasciculus, tractus centralis tegmenti. (05 Mar 2000) |

| fovea centralis | A tiny spot located in the macula that is the area of clearest vision on the retina. (27 Sep 1997) |
| fovea centralis retinae | A depression in the centre of the macula retinae containing only cones and lacking blood vessels. Synonym: fovea centralis retinae, central pit. (05 Mar 2000) |
