| pontis nervi trigeminalis nucleus | <anatomy, nerve> The term commonly used to designate the nucleus pontis nervi trigeminalis; located in pons lateral to the motor trigeminal nucleus; receives primary sensory (touch and pressure) input via the trigeminal nerve, projects to ventral posteromedial nucleus of thalamus. | nuclei pontis | The massive gray matter filling the basilar pons. The nuclei are of fairly homogeneous architecture and project to the cortex of the contralateral cerebellar hemisphere by way of the middle cerebellar peduncle. Their main afferents come from the entire extent of the cerebral neocortex by way of the longitudinal pontine bundles (corticopontine fibres); thus, the pontine nuclei form a major way-station in the impulse conduction from the cerebral cortex of one hemisphere to the posterior lobe of the opposite cerebellum. | fasciculi longitudinales pontis | The massive bundles of corticofugal fibres passing longitudinally through the ventral part of pons; they are composed of corticopontine, corticobulbar, and corticospinal fibres. | alveololabial sulcus | The upper and lower half of the labial vestibule, in the embryo, the groove formed by the deepening of the labial sulcus; its inner wall becomes incorporated with the alveolar process of the mandible or the maxilla, and its outer wall with the lips and cheeks. | anterior intermediate sulcus | A furrow occasionally seen in the adult between the anterior median fissure and the anterior lateral sulcus of the spinal cord but usually present only in the foetus. | anterolateral sulcus | An indistinct furrow on the ventral surface of the spinal cord and medulla oblongata, on either side marking the line of exit of the anterior nerve roots. Synonym: sulcus lateralis anterior, anterolateral groove. (05 Mar 2000) |
