| right pulmonary artery | <anatomy, artery> The longer of the two terminal branches of the pulmonary trunk, it passes transversely across the mediastinum passing inferior to the aortic arch to enter the hilum of the right lung. Branches are distributed with the bronchi; frequent variations occurs. Typical branches to the superior lobe (rami lobi superioris ) are apical (ramus apicalis ), anterior ascending (rami anterior ascendens ), anterior descending (ramus anterior descendens ), posterior ascending (ramus posterior ascendens ), and posterior descending (ramus posterior descendens ); to the middle lobe (rami lobi medii ) are medial (ramus medialis ) and lateral (ramus lateralis ); and to the inferior lobe (rami lobi inferioris ) are superior (apical) branch of inferior lobe (ramus superior (apicalis) lobi inferioris ), and the anterior, lateral (lateralis), medial (medialis) and posterior basal branches (rami basalis). Synonym: arteria pulmonalis dextra. (05 Mar 2000) |
| anterior border of lung | The thin anteromedial or sternal edge of the lung which overlaps the pericardial sac anteriorly and forms the boundary between the mediastinal and costal surfaces. Synonym: margo anterior pulmonis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| groove of lung for subclavian artery | <anatomy, artery> A sulcus on the surface of the lung just below the apex, corresponding to the course of the subclavian artery. Synonym: sulcus subclavius. (05 Mar 2000) |

Usually five in number, they are end arteries and give off interlobar, arcuate and interlobular arteries in sequence. The latter send afferent arterioles to the glomeruli as well as branches to the kidney capsule. The segmental arteries of the kidney are identified as: anterior inferior (arteriae segmenti anterioris inferioris renis ); anterior superior (arteriae segmenti anterioris superioris renis ); inferior (arteriae segmenti inferioris renis ); posterior (arteriae segmenti posterioris renis ); and superior (arteriae segmenti superioris renis ).
