| repetitive DNA |
(反復DNA、はんぷくDNA) An estimated half of the human genome consists of repetitive DNA sequences of which there are two main types. Tandem repeats are multiple copies of the same base sequence. Interspersed repeats are primarily degenerate copies of transposable elements, which are unstable DNA elements that can migrate to different parts of the genome. These repeats are not clustered, but are dispersed at numerous locations within the genome.
