a form characterized by recurrent episodes of fever with crops of single or multiple, erythematous, tender or painless subcutaneous nodules on the lower limbs and trunk, which resolve and usually leave a depression in the skin. It is most often seen in women and may occur alone or associated with other disorders. Called also Christian-Weber disease, nodular nonsuppurative p., and Weber-Christian p., disease, or syndrome.

a disease of unknown etiology with a chronic course and sometimes recurrence, marked by inflammatory and degenerative lesions of cartilage in the joints, ears, nose, trachea, bronchi, and elsewhere, with deformities such as floppy ear and saddle nose; if the tracheal or bronchial wall collapses, respiratory obstruction may occur. The aorta, sclera, and cornea are also affected. Called also chronic atrophic p., p. chronica atrophicans, and polychondropathia.
