Any disease of the nerve root. Radiculitis indicates actual inflammation around the nerve root; the associated pain is sometimes called radicular pain. Thus radicular pain may radiate directly form mechanical abnormalities or indirectly from herniated discs, fractures, or tumors.

Dysfunction of a nerve root often caused by compression of the root. Pain, sensory impairment, weakness or depression of deep tendon reflexes may be noticed in the distribution of nerves derived from the involved nerve root.

Compression of the nerve root at the neck or back level as it exits the spine with symptoms of pain and/or numbness radiating to the arm or leg.
