This has not been a common term in New Zealand Trusts but is becoming more common. It is a term found in some overseas Trusts especially Trusts formed for Americans outside of America where their law does not allow Trust deeds to grant as wide powers as are allowed in New Zealand. The protector's role and power is governed by the terms of the Trust deed. Often it is a similar role to that of the person with power of appointment. ...
