p-glycoprotein <cell biology, protein> A family of integral plasma membrane proteins which, when overexpressed, function as adenosine triphosphate-dependent efflux pumps, causing multidrug resistance.
Mammalian p-glycoproteins are encoded by small mdr gene families. There are several isotypes in multiple species.
See: multidrug transporter.
(22 Sep 2002)
mucus glycoprotein sulfotransferase <enzyme> Specific for gastric mucus sulfation
Registry number: EC 2.8.2.-
Synonym: mucus gp sulfotransferase
(26 Jun 1999)
myelin-associated glycoprotein A myelin protein found in the periaxonal membrane of both the central and peripheral nervous systems myelin sheaths. It has a structure that is similar to members of the ig superfamily that participate in cell adhesion.
(12 Dec 1998)
pregnancy-specific beta 1-glycoprotein A glycoprotein with the electrophoretic mobility of a beta-1 globulin. It is produced by the placental trophoblast and secreted into the maternal bloodstream during pregnancy. It can be detected 18 days after ovulation and its concentration in plasma rises steadily until, at the end of gestation, it reaches 200 mg/ml. It has been proposed as a measure of placental function for fertility control and is a candidate for an early pregnancy test.
(12 Dec 1998)
hydroxyproline rich glycoprotein See: HRGP.

Synonym: isg-100
(05 Dec 1998)
Thy 1 glycoprotein <cell biology, immunology> A molecule of 19 kD found on the surface of lymphoid and brain tissues of some mammals. Used as a marker for T lymphocytes in those species displaying it. Two allelic forms are known, Thy 1a, Thy 1b, determining Thy 1.1. And Thy 1.2. Molecules respectively, formerly known as _ AKR and _ C3H respectively. Functions unclear.
(18 Nov 1997)

acquired platelet function defect <haematology> Platelet function can be affected by a number of different disease processes including polycythaemia vera, leukaemia, myelofibrosis, renal failure, multiple myeloma and some medications (for example penicillins, salicylates, phenothiazines).
Disturbed blood clotting can be manifested by: easy bruising, bleeding gums, nosebleeds, abnormal vaginal bleeding, rectal bleeding, skin rash, vomiting blood, coughing up blood or blood in the urine. A measure of bleeding time and coagulation profile will be part of the evaluation.
