| cisterna pontis | An upward continuation of the subarachnoid space of the spinal cord, continuous about the medulla with the cerebellomedullary cisternl; may be divided into inferior (containing roots of C.N. 9-12) and superior (containing root of C.N. 5, 7, 8) parts. Synonym: cisterna pontis. (05 Mar 2000) |

| pontis nervi trigeminalis nucleus | <anatomy, nerve> The term commonly used to designate the nucleus pontis nervi trigeminalis; located in pons lateral to the motor trigeminal nucleus; receives primary sensory (touch and pressure) input via the trigeminal nerve, projects to ventral posteromedial nucleus of thalamus. Synonym: nucleus sensorius principalis nervi trigemini, nucleus sensorius superior nervi trigemini, principal sensory nucleus of the trigeminus. (05 Mar 2000) |
| nuclei pontis | The massive gray matter filling the basilar pons. The nuclei are of fairly homogeneous architecture and project to the cortex of the contralateral cerebellar hemisphere by way of the middle cerebellar peduncle. Their main afferents come from the entire extent of the cerebral neocortex by way of the longitudinal pontine bundles (corticopontine fibres); thus, the pontine nuclei form a major way-station in the impulse conduction from the cerebral cortex of one hemisphere to the posterior lobe of the opposite cerebellum. Synonym: nuclei pontis, pontine gray matter. (05 Mar 2000) |
| fasciculi longitudinales pontis | The massive bundles of corticofugal fibres passing longitudinally through the ventral part of pons; they are composed of corticopontine, corticobulbar, and corticospinal fibres. Synonym: fasciculi longitudinales pontis, longitudinal pontine bundles. (05 Mar 2000) |
| fasciculus obliquus pontis | A bundle of fibres in the ventral surface of the pons running from the anterior mesial portion outward and backward. Synonym: fasciculus obliquus pontis, oblique bundle of pons. (05 Mar 2000) |
| fibrae pontis transversae | Fibres arising from the pontine nuclei, decussate and pass into the cerebellum as the middle cerebellar peduncles. Synonym: fibrae pontis transversae. (05 Mar 2000) |
| arcus pedis longitudinalis pars lateralis | Formed by calcaneus, cuboid and two lateral metatarsals; the combined arch is supported normally by ligaments, intrinsic muscles, and the tendons of extrinsic muscles of the foot. Synonym: arcus pedis longitudinalis pars lateralis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| arcus pedis longitudinalis pars medialis | Formed by the calcaneus, talus, navicular, three cuneiform bones, and the three medial metatarsals. Synonym: arcus pedis longitudinalis pars medialis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| pars | A part; a portion. Origin: L. Pars (part-) a part (05 Mar 2000) |
| pars abdominalis aortae | <anatomy> The largest arterial conduit below the diaphragm. This term refers to the portion of the aorta below the diaphragm to the bifurcation into the right and left common iliac arteries. It supplies blood to the abdominal viscera, pelvic organs and lower extremities. (20 Jun 2000) |
| pars abdominalis ductus thoracici | The part of the thoracic duct between the cisterna chyli and the aortic hiatus of the diaphragm. Synonym: pars abdominalis ductus thoracici. (05 Mar 2000) |
| pars abdominalis oesophagi | The part of the oesophagus inferior to the diaphragm. See: oesophagus. Synonym: pars abdominalis oesophagi. (05 Mar 2000) |
| pars abdominalis ureteris | The part of the ureter between the renal pelvis and the brim of the pelvis. Synonym: pars abdominalis ureteris. (05 Mar 2000) |
| pars alaris musculi nasalis | <anatomy> See: nasalis muscle. Synonym: pars alaris musculi nasalis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| pars alveolaris mandibulae | The portion of the body of the mandible that surrounds and supports the lower teeth. Synonym: pars alveolaris mandibulae. (05 Mar 2000) |
