| 설명 | 화농균(고름)을 유발할 수 있는 병균. 대개 강력한 염증반응과 조직에 대한 파괴력을 가지고 있다)의 감염에 의해서 골과 골수의 염증에 생긴 병적상태를 말한다. 병균은 주로 피부상처에 의해 감염되며 때로는 호흡기감염으로도 발생할 수 있다. 특히 소아는 면역력이 약하여 팔이나 다리에 걸릴 가능성이 높다. 뼈에 대한 염증반응으로 고름집을 형성하며, 죽은뼈조직을 형성하게 된다. 치료는 항생제의 주입이며, 치료에 반응하지 않거나 만성으로 진행한 경우 수술로써 죽은 뼈조직을 제거하고 농을 밖으로 배출해야 한다. |

| 설명 | 뼈조직의 감소로 뼈에 구멍이 난 상태를 말한다. 주로 칼슘염의 감소로 기인하여 뼈가 얇아지고 약해진다. 따라서 뼈의 골절이 잘 발생하게 된다. 이런 현상은 나이많은 폐경기의 여자에서 잘 발생한다. 이 이유는 월경이 일어나지 않는 폐경상태에서는 여성호르몬(에스트로겐)의 분비가 감소되는데, 에스트로겐의 감소가 뼈의 뼈파괴세포(osteoclast)의 활동을 증가시켜 뼈의 파괴를 촉진하고 뼈의 칼슘침착을 감소시킨다. 이에 대한 치료는 여성호르몬의 투여로써 가능하다. |

| 설명 | 뼈에서 생기는 악성종양으로 주로 10~25세사이에 호발한다. 남성에서 여성보다 2배정도 더 많이 발생하며, 뼈의 어느 부위나 발생할 수 있으나 주로 무릅관절 부위, 즉 넙다리뼈 먼뼈몸통끝에 정강뼈몸쪽뼈몸통에 호발한다. 발생빈도는 원발성(뼈에서 바로 발생한 종양을 원발성이라 하고, 다른 곳에서 생긴 종양이 전이되어 뼈의 종양으로 발생한 경우를 전이성이라 한다) 악성뼈종양의 약 20%정도이며, 증상은 통증을 수반하는 종창과 압통이 있다. 진단은 방사선소견과 병리조직학적 소견을 보고 내리며, 치료는 방사선요법, 화학적 요법, 수술적 요법 및 면역요법을 시행한다. 예후는 대개 불량하여 사망율이 높고 대개 1년내에 폐로 전이가 일어난다. |

| 설명 | 미분화 간질세포와 비전형적 풋뼈(callus) 또는 뼈형성을 특징을 하는 악성뼈 종양, 원발인 경우 10~20대에 속발인 경우 고령자에게서 더 많이 발생한다. 조직학적으로 여러 성분이 나타날 수 있는데 미분화섬유모세포가 주성분이면 ‘섬유모세포형’, 미분화연골세포가 주성분이면 연골모세포형 뼈육종으로 그리고 비전형 뼈형성이 주로 보일 때는 뼈모세포형 뼈육종이라 분류한다. 또한 혈관분포가 풍부하면서 해면상 혈관 확장을 보일 때는 모세혈관확장 뼈육종이라 한다. 임상적으로 환부근처의 동통과 압통이 주요 증상이다. 과거에는 5년 생존율이 20%에 불과했으나 최근 치료의 발전으로 60%로 향상되었다. |
